I am honoured to be a member of the Advisory Board of the Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance in Dubai which produces this fine journal in corporate governance. The latest issue is truly outstanding, with every article a must-read. There is an interview with Sandra Guerra, independent director at Vale in Brazil. which suffered a tragic dam collapse killing 270 people. The interview with Ms Guerra provides first-hand insights into how the board and company responded to the disaster. It is a lesson in how independent directors should act and respond in a crisis. There are also interviews with Brandon Nelson, Audit Committee Chairman of BP, and Robert Walker, Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Asset Stewardship at State Street Global Advisors, and other excellent articles on topics such as ESG and climate risk.
