I am pleased to release my latest report which covers the sustainability governance structures and chief sustainability officer (CSO) appointments in large listed companies in Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. The report is intended to spark conversations in boardrooms and companies regarding the pros and cons of their current sustainability governance structures and whether alternative structures may be preferable, and whether to appoint a CSO and if so, what are the attributes they should be looking for. It is not intended to prescribe “one size fits all” practices.
I would like to thank Aw Kaiying, a former student who did a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of data collection and analysis; Sustainable Finance Institute Asia (SFIA) for being a partner on this and other projects in this area; and to The Business Times for being the media partner.
Future projects in this series are expected to cover topics such as sustainability assurance and materiality assessment of ESG factors.
