Congratulations to the Vietnam Independent Directors Association (VNIDA) on the release of the Independent Directors Competency Framework. As an advisory council member of VNIDA, I am privileged to have been asked to contribute to this very important initiative.

In my view, the Competency Framework provides a solid foundation for VNIDA to develop a comprehensive professional certification programme for independent directors in Vietnam. Other countries looking to develop a proper certification programme for independent directors can benefit from the work that VNIDA has done.
The release of the Competency Framework follows closely from the issue of the Code of Conduct for Independent Directors in August this year, another excellent initiative of VNIDA.
Since its establishment in January 2022, VNIDA has done much to educate current and potential directors in Vietnam and to contribute to Vietnam’s journey to raise corporate governance standards. This includes a number of excellent conferences and important partnerships.
As a Singaporean, I always believe that we do well if our neighbours do well. I look forward to contributing to the efforts of VNIDA and taking part in Vietnam’s journey to improving corporate governance and its capital market.
